Oral Immunotherapy (OIT)

Oral Immunotherapy (OIT)

Previously, the only option to treat patients with food allergy was strict avoidance of the food along with instructions on how to use an injectable epinephrine device to fight off any serious allergic reactions. We are excited about recent advances in the field of Allergy & Immunology that will allow us to offer a newer option to help patients with food allergies.

Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) is a process that introduces very small amounts of food allergen into the body gradually every 1-2 weeks until the body becomes desensitized. This process usually takes about 6 months to reach what is known as a maintenance dose. Once the maintenance dose is reached, most patients will not have an allergic reaction if the food is accidentally eaten.

OIT is a way to finally be free of the fear of food! Please contact our office to see if you or your child is a candidate to receive this type of therapy.
